On April 3, the beverage business company Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam Beverage Co., Ltd. was established through a joint venture between Suntory and PepsiCo. With a population of 88 million, second only to Indonesia in the ASEAN region, Vietnam is a country with an extremely young population (average age in the 20s) and an economy that is developing fast, bearing a striking resemblance to Japan in the 1960s.
The establishment of a Suntory Group company in this country, in a market that holds huge opportunities for our beverage and food business, is extremely significant. Alongside companies such as Suntory Garuda Beverage in Indonesia and Tipco F&B in Thailand, we must strengthen the presence of this new base in Vietnam and use it as a bridgehead for our business in Southeast Asia. I firmly believe that the most important point is the question of how to ensure the new company's significant growth. PepsiCo Vietnam has the largest share in Vietnam's beverage market, boasting approximately twice the sales volume of Coca-Cola Co. possessing strong number-one brands in the categories of carbonated beverages, fruit juices, water, and energy drinks. The Suntory Group will fully exercise our knowledge and know-how accumulated over many years, and invest heavily in this category. Through this partnership, which maximizes the strengths of the two companies, we must develop our everage business in Vietnam, which we hope will produce significant results.
